Why Community Matters
Reflections from the Filipino-Canadian Journey
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting Filipinos from every corner of Canada — caregivers, students, nurses, engineers, artists, entrepreneurs, and families building new lives with courage and quiet determination.
And in every story, one truth always shines through: we are strongest when we are together.
The Heart of Our Community
Whether we gather for a fiesta, a fundraising event, a cultural celebration, or a simple potluck, there is a unique warmth that fills the room. It’s the same warmth we grew up with back home — the kind that says:
“Kumain ka na ba?”
It’s a small question, but it carries a world of care. It reminds us that even far from the Philippines, we bring our values with us — generosity, hospitality, and a deep sense of responsibility for one another.
Why Community Matters
Community gives us strength. It gives us belonging. It gives us a place to celebrate our victories and share our burdens.
For newcomers, it becomes a lifeline — a source of guidance, comfort, and connection. For long-time residents, it becomes a way to give back, mentor, and uplift the next generation.
And for all of us, it becomes a reminder that we are never alone.
Moving Forward Together
As we continue to grow as a Filipino-Canadian community, my hope is simple: that we keep supporting one another, celebrating one another, and lifting each other up.
Because when one of us rises, we all rise.
Maraming salamat for being part of this journey — and for making our community a place of hope, joy, and connection.
